The New Year

Britt asked me what we were going to do for New Year's Eve. Last year he went downtown because he was finally 21. The year before he was in Atlanta for the Chick-fil-A bowl. What were we going to do that was just exciting? We ended up sitting on the couch, watching the ball drop, having a New Year's kiss and then going to bed. The joys of married life and parenthood!

On New Year's day, we were invited to go to the Bailey's house to watch the Orange Bowl (VA Tech vs Cincinnati). As most of you know, I am a huge UVA fan and cannot stand VA Tech. I thought I had converted Britt until he showed up with an outfit for Austin to wear to the party. Under HUGE protest, Austin was allowed to wear the outfit. He did not like it to much though (note the disgust on his face and the crying)

On January 3rd, Britt and I attended his annual Troutville Fire Department and Rescue Squad Banquet. This was the first night that we left Austin overnight. I cried from the moment we dropped him off until about 30 miles down the road. Britt didn't understand what was wrong with me. I guess it's just a mother thing. The banquet was at Natural Bridge Hotel. The food was marvelous, as was the guest speaker. After all the formalities were done, it was a night of music, dancing and karaoke. I guess I was the only one taking pictures because they are all pictures of Britt and none of me.

Needless to say, we had a great night and a well needed "rest" from everyday life. We picked up Austin the next day and everything was fine. Thank You mom!!

2008 - A Year To Remember

Well this is the story of how we all got started. Me and my wife met one early early morning when I placed myself in her radar (literally) and she pulled me over. Well back up - we have known each other for a while, seen each other on fire calls (I'm a volunteer firefighter), and chatted occasionaly when our paths crossed in public. Now back to the flahing lights in my rear view mirror, she came strolling up to the window like she was going to write a ticket to a man that was obviously in deservance of a warning. She then saw who it was and we began to talk and I left there 2 hours later with a warning and seven digits (that would be a phone number). We went out on a first date and clicked. . . . . .

August 16, 2008 was the day that our life as a married couple began. We said "I do", and at that point Kim realized that the man of her dreams wasn't only 12 years younger, but who she was stuck with for the rest of her life! The wedding was beautiful, and shared with friends and family from both sides which made it even more special. The semi, but not really honeymoon began in Myrtle Beach at Kim's grandparents beach house (Britt is not getting off that cheap he's got to take me somewhere). Britt played a ton of golf and Kim was an ever so knowledgable caddie. We came home, real life began, and we prepared for the biggest miracle of all. . . .

Britt got a new job that required him to travel out of town 4 days a week. . . .So picture this. . . .are you ready? . . . Here he is sleeping away in his hotel room in Durham North Carolina (3.5 hours away). Kim wakes up in the middle of the night, a MONTH before her due date, with contractions 4 minutes apart. She calls her mom because of course there's no way that she could be going into labor?!? Boy was she wrong. . . .to the hospital they went and not a minute to soon! When she arrived, the hospital staff decided to admit her because her contractions were intense. Now remember Britt, counting sheep in Durham, was awakened by a vibrating cell phone. Now with the telephone book map in hand, to the Raleigh Durham Airport I went (because of course airports are the only people that rent cars at 3:30 a.m.). Once in his rental Chevy Cobalt, north he headed. . . .the periodic updates made him want to be there even that much more. So needless to say that 3.5 hour trip magically became 2.5. Once there, we played that wonderful waiting game in Labor and Delivery, but who knew my wife would sprint to 9 cm. and crawl to 10? So on November 19, 2008 at 3:46 p.m. we were blessed with Austin Spencer Wyrick, weighing in at a whopping 5 lbs. 10 ounces. He had his first
Thanksgiving and Christmas with his extended families, he played baby Jesus in a church program, and has already been spoiled by his grandparents. He's been a marvelous addition to our family, and we can't wait to see what 2009 brings. . . .
P.S. In case your wondering-nothing ever goes as planned in our family. . . .
Stay tuned for more Wyrick Adventures =) . . . . . . . . .
